Starting a company is exciting. Hopefully, things go well and your new company grows. Growth in a new business is great, but it does bring with it an issue: staffing.
So, here are a few tips to help you make good decisions when you're hiring your staff.
- First, identify the jobs you need done. Take an inventory of the roles you need filled. This will help you save time as you review résumés and interview applicants.
- Next, you have to let people know you're looking. There are a few ways to do this.
- Tap into your social network. Maybe someone you know is looking, or knows someone who is.
- Advertise: Write an ad describing the position and expectations. Use local and/or online classifieds.
- Consider a staffing company. If you need several people, you may just want to outsource the job of finding them, after all - you've got a new company to run.
- Be ready to review a lot of résumés and allow for plenty of time for interviewing. Be picky, there's nothing worse than realizing you wasted a bunch of time and resources by hiring the wrong person for the job.
